‘Hold’ Tesla Down 7% After Robotaxi Event | Nemo

Name of opportunity: 👀

Tesla, Inc

More questions than answers: ❓

Tesla’s ‘We, Robot’ event took place yesterday, with the company debuting a prototype of its ‘Cybercab’ self-driving vehicle. But analysts at a number of different financial institutions have shared concerns about the lack of concrete information shared at the event.

Analysts at Wells Fargo said the event had “little substance” and Morgan Stanley Adam Jonas said on behalf of the investment bank, "We were overall disappointed”.

Tesla is currently considered by analysts to be a ‘Hold’’. Analysts predict a 23.51% decrease in the next 12 months, reaching an average target price of $182.63.

While attendees and viewers of the live stream saw the futuristic robotaxi with no steering wheel drive CEO Elon Musk in a grand entrance, the only timeline that was shared was that they would be in production by 2027, with Musk himself admitting that the timelines he shares are often “optimistic”.

Tesla also did not share any details about the progress towards an affordably priced EV, which the company has previously said would be in production in 2025 - something that analysts now think is looking less likely.

These letdowns make analysts suspicious of Tesla’s ability to deliver. But if the company can produce a reliable self-driving car that can function as a taxi, it stands to potentially make a massive profit. Analysts at McKinsey and Company think the robotaxi market could be worth US$300 to $400 billion in revenue by 2035.
